In short
- The website uses no analytics, advertising or tracking and sets no cookies of its own.
- The live chat is optional. It loads only after you choose Start chat; then tawk.to processes your messages.
- Page contents, screenshots, console and network data that you inspect with Tapscope stay on your Mac.
- To check a Pass or Pro license, the app sends the license key and an anonymous ID of your Mac to Polar.
- Polar sells Tapscope as merchant of record and processes payment details. We never see them.
Controller
DREAMARTS, Grundstrasse 54, 8427 Rorbas, Switzerland. Email: support@tapscope.ch. More details are in the legal notice.
This policy follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Hosting and server logs
Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, hosts tapscope.ch and its domain name service. This includes the update feed and the downloads. When you open a page, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data: IP address, date and time, the requested address, referrer and browser identification (user agent). Cloudflare uses this data to deliver the site and protect it against attacks. We do not combine it with other data or use it for advertising. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and working website.
Cloudflare operates data centres worldwide, so data may be processed in the USA. Cloudflare states that it is certified under the EU-US and Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework and also uses standard contractual clauses. See the Cloudflare privacy policy.
No cookies, no tracking
The website loads no analytics, advertising or social media scripts and sets no cookies of its own. Fonts, scripts and images are served from tapscope.ch.
Your browser's local storage keeps three settings: the chosen language (tapscope.language), whether you have visited before, so the language redirect happens only once (tapscope.visited), and the chosen colour theme (tapscope.theme). These values never leave your device. You can delete them in your browser settings at any time.
Live chat (tawk.to)
The Live chat button opens a dialog first. The chat software loads from tawk.to only after you choose Start chat. Before that, the website makes no connection to tawk.to.
Once the chat has started, tawk.to Inc. (USA) processes your IP address, browser and device data, the page you are on and your messages. If you give your name or email address in the chat, tawk.to processes those too. tawk.to may set cookies and similar storage to keep the conversation going, and may process the data in the USA and other countries. We read the conversation in the tawk.to dashboard to answer you. No bot answers for us, and the website passes no other visitor data to tawk.to.
The legal basis is your consent. You can withdraw it for the future at any time: close the chat and delete the cookies of tawk.to in your browser. Your choice is not stored, so the website asks again on the next page view. We delete chat histories once your request is resolved and we no longer need them for follow-up questions or legal retention duties. See the tawk.to privacy policy. If you prefer, email support@tapscope.ch instead.
Email support
When you email us, we process your address, your message and any attachments to answer your request. Help › Report a Problem… in the app opens a draft in your own mail program, and the app sends nothing by itself. Help › Copy Diagnostics copies the result of tapscope doctor to your clipboard. It leaves your Mac only if you paste it into a message yourself.
The Tapscope app
Tapscope runs locally. A background process (daemon) on your Mac connects to your devices, simulators, Android devices and the network targets you add. The Chrome DevTools and React DevTools are bundled with the app. The CDP endpoint listens on 127.0.0.1:9222 and is reachable only from your Mac. If you turn on remote access in Settings › Agents, other computers on your network can reach it after a warning.
The app contains no analytics, crash reporting or advertising. Page contents, DOM, console messages, network requests, storage and screenshots that you inspect stay on your Mac. We do not receive them. The free quota is counted locally. Screenshots are saved where you choose, or by default under ~/.tapscope/screenshots/.
License activation
The Free plan needs no account and no license check. When you activate a Pass or Pro license key, the app sends the following to Polar:
- the license key,
- an anonymous ID of your Mac (a SHA-256 hash of the hardware UUID with an app-specific salt, which cannot be reversed),
- the name of your Mac, so you can recognize the activation in the customer portal,
- the versions of Tapscope and macOS.
This way the license applies to the allowed number of Macs. Afterwards the app checks about once a day whether the license is still valid. This check sends only the key, the activation ID and the anonymous ID. When you release the license in the app (tapscope logout) or in the customer portal, Polar deletes the activation. The legal basis is the performance of the contract.
Purchases through Polar
Polar Software Inc., 3500 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901, USA, sells Tapscope as merchant of record. Polar processes your email address, billing details and payment data according to its own privacy policy and uses standard contractual clauses for transfers. We never see payment data. From Polar we receive only the order details needed for accounting and support: name, email address, country, product and amount. The legal basis is the performance of the contract and statutory retention duties for accounting records.
App updates
Tapscope can check https://tapscope.ch/appcast.xml for new versions. Automatic checks are off by default. You can turn them on in Settings › General › Updates, or check by hand at any time. The check downloads only this file. Like any page request, Cloudflare processes the IP address, the time and an identification with the name and version of Tapscope. Tapscope sends no system profile. Updates are also downloaded from tapscope.ch and verified with a digital signature before installation.
Retention
We keep personal data only as long as the purpose requires. Support emails and chats are deleted once the request is resolved, unless they are needed for follow-up questions. Order records are kept as long as accounting law requires; in Switzerland that is ten years.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct and delete your data, to restrict or object to its processing and to receive it in a portable format. You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. Contact the controller named above. You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), and in the EU, the authority of your country.
Changes
We update this policy when the website, the app or the services involved change. The date at the top shows the current version.
